Karlsmuhle

The Estate

The small estate Karlsmühle is located in a valley where you Ruwer wines produced since the time of Napoleon, now managed impeccably by Peter Geiben. The vineyard is 12  hectares and is located directly on the river Ruwer Lorenzhöf, a small tributary of the Moselle River, has a unique micro-climate, characterized by hot days and cool nights, with hills reaching up to 700 meters, rich in vineyards located close to the river bed that emits air cooling during the night. The vineyards Lorenzhöfer, which are largely made up of Riesling, are exclusive property of the estate Karlsmühle on the steepest of the whole valley of the Ruwer, and the soil is characterized by shale and clay, with layers of quartzite. Renowned for producing great Rieslings, the company produces range from the “simple” Kabinett, fresh and consumed right now, the most sought Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese, Eiswein appreciated by critics around the world, but of the 70,000 bottles produced per year a part comes from the vineyard Kaseler Nies’chen.

In addition to the terroir, the selective grape harvest, winemaking technology belongs to the quality-determining characteristics. The cellar is located in a natural rock mountain. After the harvest, the grapes are processed directly in their own wine-press. After contaminants have put in the form of suspended particles, the must is pumped to the fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Regular control of the fermentation process by tasting the wine directly from the tank is an early indication of the expected quality. Some wines are matured in oak barrels from me. After careful storage, finally, the wine is bottled.
