2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Rosé Les Grimaudes (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes) $NA An earthy, slightly funky rose that grew on me; the 2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Rosé Les Grimaudes walks the line between rose and full on red territory. Showing deep strawberry, wild herbs, loamy earth and possibly even a hint of meatiness, it possesses a savory character on the palate with a medium-bodied, well balanced, and juicy mouth feel, as well as notable length. Not for everyone, this is more of an interesting stand in for a Pinot Noir than your standard rose; nevertheless, it is well done and certainly worth a look if this note seems interesting to you. 2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Les Grimaudes (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes) $NA Tasted out of barrel and a blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Carignan, and 10% Cinsault, the 2011 Les Grimaudes is a rich, mouth filling red that delivers loads lavender, roasted meats, leather, and violets that are supported by a solid core of black cherry and darker styled fruits. Medium+ bodied, richly textured and overall supple and polished on the palate, with good acidity and plenty of length, this delicious, easy drinking 2011 should drink nicely on release and 5-8+ years thereafter. (89-92 pts.)

2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Perrieres (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes) $NA The 2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Perrieres also shows loads of promise. A blend of Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache, it is a beautifully put together Costières-de-Nîmes that offers fresh, pure, and mineral-laced aromas of purple fruits, violets, black cherry liqueur, and licorice to go with a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet focused and very detailed palate. The texture is really something here, and this has sound backend structure and exceptional tannin quality. It should be approachable on release, yet also age gracefully. (89-92 pts.)

2010 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Perrieres (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes) $NA Along the same lines, the 2010 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Perrieres is an outstanding red that shows complex aromatics of smoked herbs, garrigue, violets, licorice, and a core of purple fruit. Medium+ bodied and balanced on the palate, with beautiful purity, juicy acidity, and good tannin, this character-filled, complex 2010 is delicious now, yet will also evolve well for 5-7 years or so. (90 pts.)

2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Ka (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes) My favorite in the lineup and one of the best 100% Carignan offerings out there, the 2011 Marc Kreydenweiss Costières-de-Nîmes Ka delivers a textbook profile of black cherry, leather, pen ink, smoke, and licorice styled aromatics, medium to full-body, and a supple, thrilling textured mouth feel. It is decidedly rich, yet stays fresh and clean, never seeming heavy or cumbersome. In addition, there is no hint of the astringency or herbal character this variety can often show. It will be approachable on release, yet have no problem drinking well for upwards of a decade. (90-93 pts.)
