Frank Phélan

Frank Phélan was created in 1986 as the second wine of Château Phélan Ségur, in Saint-Estèphe, and is named after the son of the founder, Bernard Phelan.
The founder was an Irish merchant from Tipperary who bought Clos de Garramey in 1805 and Ségur de Cabanac in 1810; his son Frank Phelan (1820-1883) was mayor of Saint-Estèphe for thirty years.
The wine comes from 15 hectares of old vines plus selected younger vines and ages 14 months. It is fruit-forward, with silky tannins, and can be enjoyed young.
